Energy Efficient Lighting in Ohio

Compact fluorescent light bulbs

Lighting and lamp fixtures are integral to our lives -- so much so, that they soak up as much as 15% of a typical household electric bill. The good news is that by taking advantage of the latest in energy saving light, your lighting bill can be reduced by 50%-75%!

Dr. Energy Saver Cleveland is an expert on working with homeowners to reduce energy bills. Providing energy efficient lighting in Akron, Cleveland, Canton, Westlake, Chagrin Falls, as well as areas such as Solon, Brecksville, North Olmsted, Shaker Heights, Hudson, Cleveland Heights, Gates Mills, Solon and many other surrounding areas.

As part of our whole-house energy audit in Ohio, we're able to show you how much you can save by switching your home lighting over to compact fluorescent light bulbs.

Replacing Incandescent Light Bulbs with LEDs and CFLs Saves Electricity

By replacing your outdated incandescent bulbs with new, high-efficiency fluorescent lights, you can quickly and effectively save energy on your monthly electric bills. In fact, having Dr. Energy Saver Cleveland switch out those old bulbs with CFL's pays for itself faster than any other upgrades.

CFLs save in several ways:

  • Increased efficiency: CFL's prove to be about 75% more efficient than incandescent lights.
  • Longer lifespan: A CFL lasts approximately 3 times longer than standard incandescent bulbs.
  • Cool Operators: A CFL typically operates at about 90 degrees Fahrenheit, while an incandescent bulb heats at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat has always been an inefficient byproduct of incandescent technology.

Dr. Energy Saver Cleveland Says...

What's good for your house is also good for your neighborhood. There's plenty at stake when you're talking about saving energy on lighting.

Think of this: if each house in the USA converted to energy efficient lighting, the saved energy would be the same as the energy created by 90 power plants!

In a single year, the reduced greenhouse gas emissions would be the equivalent of taking 800,000 cars off the road.

LED lights have a bright future

Many homeowners interested in energy efficiency are switching to LED lights as an alternative to compact fluorescent lights. CFLs are much more energy efficient than old-fashioned incandescent lightbulbs. But LED lights even have CFLs beat in terms of efficiency and longevity.

"LED" stands for Light-Emitting Diode, another name for the semiconductor material used to excite electrons and produce light in an LED. The diodes that make up an LED light are small, which is why LED lights for home use typically contain many individual diodes —a factor that contributes to the higher cost of these lights.

But LED lights may well be worth the extra expense when you do the numbers. For example, when on all the time, a 60-watt incandescent light bulb can cost more that $90 per year to operate, while a CFL will consume roughly $24-worth of electricity to produce the same amount of light. But an equivalent LED bulb will cost only about $30 per year to operate, and provide over 50,000 hours of light (1 year = 8760 hours)
